Updates of what God is doing in people's lives
David Wataba
David Wataba was born in a happy Anglican religious family. However, his childhood was drastically interrupted when his Dad was murdered in 1981 by men in army fatigue. Life and education became extremely difficult or nearly impossible for the family. Ironically, it is in this same year that Sarah his wife accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior. David gave his life to Jesus Christ much later on Sunday, 14th August 1988 at Kampala Pentecostal Church (now Watoto Church).
As he grew in the LORD, the burden for missions and fulltime ministry grew too. Initially, he felt that it was pride for him to even think that way and he went to his pastor to repent and ask for prayer, not to fall into such temptation. He laughed looking straight at him and said, “Son, the hand of God is upon you. Listen to His voice.”
David’s first encounter with LIFE Ministry Uganda was in 1989 just before the Reinhard Bonnke crusade at Kololo Airstrip. LMU went to KPC to train counsellors for the crusade. He was among the counsellors. In 1990, his pastor told him to go to LMU for they were recruiting Jesus Film team members. In June the same year, he joined the ministry and underwent several trainings in skills of evangelism and discipleship. His heart for God and His people in the mission field grew tremendously.
In 1991, he was challenged to lead a Jesus Film team in Kampala and ministry grew in Kampala, Luwero, Kiboga, Mukono to mention but a few locations.
In 1992, he was challenged to go and start Jesus Film work in Jinja together with his leader (now) Rev. Moses Isabirye. He hesitated to go at first, partly because he was struggling with a long-term commitment to fulltime ministry even though the LORD had spoken to him that year that his calling was to the whole world, a far-fetched utterance so he thought.
He later obeyed God and left for Jinja in 1993. On motorcycles he traversed the sub-region, he learnt Lusoga and preached in it and got a godly, dark and lovely musoga for a wife! David and Sarah wedded on 17th February 1996 and they have three children; Dorcas, Peace and David King.
They went to Nairobi, Kenya in April 1996 for Great Commission Training (GCT) until December the same year. That was just the beginning of their Levitical life and ministry.
The LORD has given them a burden and grace to take the Gospel to the last, the least, the lost and the hidden. They have served in different responsibilities in the field and the national office where God has tried and tested them in every way. Currently, David serves as the National Director, LIFE Ministry Uganda and Geography Strategy Leader, the Jesus Film Project, Africa.
